To have and have not: Articles and DP

2009. szept. 22, 11h, MTA NyTI földszinti előadó:

The talk compares languages without articles and languages with articles with respect to a number of syntactic and semantic phenomena, arguing that these two types of languages have a different structure for the traditional NP. Some of the phenomena that will be examined involve locality of movement, scrambling, superlatives, negative raising, superiority, clitic doubling, head-internal relatives, negative concord, number morphology, and quantifier raising. It will be shown that the internal structure of the NP crucially affects all of these. I will also explore consequences of a parametric approach to the structure of the NP for the structure of the IP field (based on the NP/clause parallelism hypothesis).
