On some questions regarding the Hungarian nominal and pronominal  plural

Dékány Éva

The empirical focus of this talk is the nominal plural -k, the associative plural -ék and pronominal plurality in Hungarian.

The main claims of the talk are as follows:

- the nominal plural -k is incompatible with numerals for semantic reasons

- the associative plural -ék cannot be morphologically decomposed into the possessive anaphor -é and the nominal plural -k

- the nominal plural -k and the associative plural -ék share the [group] feature

- all shared properties of the two kinds of plurals can be traced back to the [group] feature

- the distributional differences between the two kinds of plurals fall out from their differen height in the DP-hierarchy

- 1st and 2nd person personal pronouns get their plural interpretation from the AssPl node; their Num node is specified as singular
