Towards a European network for dialect syntax: the Edisyn project
Marika Lekakou, Meertens Institute, Amsterdam
It would not be unfair to say that research into the syntactic
properties of dialectal varieties has until recent years been largely
overlooked by dialectologists and theoretical linguists alike. However,
currently dialect syntax research can clearly be seen as having taken
off, as is evidenced by, among other things, the success of recent
dialect syntax projects, such as the ASIS (Syntactic Atlas of Northern
Italy) and the SAND (Syntactic Atlas of the Dutch Dialects), as well as
the ongoing activities underway in several other parts of Europe (e.g.
Portugal, Switzerland, Scandinavia, etc). In my talk I will present in
detail how the SAND project was designed and carried out. In addition, I
will discuss the prospects for European collaboration on dialect syntax,
which is the central goal of the Edisyn (European Dialect Syntax)
project, an ESF-funded project currently running at the Meertens Institute.
